Division Project Is All About Shoes
Division 07 of the Carolinas District announces to its 10 Kiwanis Clubs the invitation to participate in a Division project which is fun, easy and effective.
The Division 07 Council has reviewed and approved the Samaritan's Feet Shoes of Hope project beginning January 15, 2005. Each club is asked to contribute at least 2 pairs of shoes per member. Each pair of shoes will be shipped to either Africa, Caribbean or South America in 2005 and matched up to a child who can not afford a pair of shoes. This child will also receive medical and educational attention if needed. Each pair of shoes will be given to a child with a blessing by a Samaritan's Feet volunteer or local church representative. Samaritan's Feet has plans to ship shoes to Brazil, Haiti, Ecuador, South Africa, Ethiopia and Nigeria in 2005. (Kiwanians are invited to travel with Samaritan's Feet overseas in 2005 as well.)

The Kiwanis Clubs of Pineville-South Meck participated in a Samaritan's Feet project in early 2004 with 52 pairs of shoes raised and over $250.00 (covering shipping costs). The Kiwanis Club of Rock Hill has begun early and is projecting over 100 shoes raised by their annual Christmas Party on Dec. 13th.
Only new athletic shoes are needed. $2/pair of shoes is to be added to cover shipping. Off Broadway Shoes is already in partnership with Samaritan's Feet in the Charlotte area.
The official announcement of this project will be Jan. 15, 2005 at the Division 07 Governor's Visit and dinner. February is Black History Month and this is a great time to get interest from Key Clubs. April 9th is the Annual Samaritan's Feet Walkathon at which time all shoes collected will be gathered and presented.
All Clubs are asked to appoint a Samaritan's Feet chairperson to coordinate. Contact persons for Samaritan's Feet are Peter Rieke, Immediate Past Lt. Gov, at prieke@bellsouth.net or David Gallagher, Lt. Gov., at casavius@earthlink.net if you have questions or concerns. Now is the time to ask your Board to approve this project. It will be the first Division 7 project in a long, long time.
